The add-in Windows Home Server Event Monitor that monitors the server event logs and emails the results is due to be upgraded to V2, and developer Dave Mercer would like your suggestions in regard to what you would like to see incorporated. Some of the updates might include:
- Alerts based on specific WHS Notifications:
Disk issues
Backup state - Daily summary of system health and status
- Better (i.e. documented) regex support
- Server name in EMail title
- Possibly event name in Email title
- Regex support for the Message field
NOTE: SMART monitoring should be in V3.

I would like to see the ability for WHS to wake on LAN client computers just prior to the scheduled back-up. Then once complete, shut them down. This way, those of us who do not leave our computers on 24/7 can still be safe guarded…..

I’d love to know who has accessed the server remotely. I have set up a few guest accounts and accounts for friends to swap files, photo’s etc and it would be great to know if anyone has logged in.

You can find out who has accessed the server remotely by installing the add-in that comes with the Windows Home Server Toolkit. The details can then be found within the console under Settings, Toolkit, the Remote tab and clicking View below Remote Access History. I would like to see WHS and Media Center intergration, where by the WHS has TV/Radio tuner cards, and extender on the network can access live TV and recorded TV via the WHS.
Also the Media Center Guide needs to be accessible by all computers on the network, and externally, so that I can schedule recordings when I’m on the train or at work.

Yes i agree I would like to see them both ingetrated but I think in doing so that it would be easy for the average user to use. What do you think?

I have not yet added this, but I will.
I am one of those who suffes from periods of hard drive activity whislt it can take days to balance the system…
An email when the drives are balanced would be useful
