    There still doesn’t seem to have been any confirmation that defragging is of any benefit to Home Server, nor even whether it is really recommended by Microsoft?

    Well, in response to Dan, I would say that Microsoft wouldn’t have certified PerfectDisk for Home Server unless there was some perceived benefit.

    I don’t see how defragmenting the drives could hurt performance on NTFS… and if you were doing a lot of file moving, it certainly will help performance in the shared storage pool.

    But I think the best benefit will be seen in file performance on the main drive. This is especially important if you run WHS as a web page server, since even a system reboot is something you want to accelerate in performance.
