Latest Data Corruption Status
One of the benefits of now being an MVP is that tonight I had the opportunity to take part in the monthly discussion with the WHS Team which highlighted that the data corruption issue which affects some users will NOT effect those using just the one hard drive. So, only those of you using multiple hard drives can be affected, with duplication turned on or off. The team are still working continuously for a fix.

Microsoft has already acknowledged in October, when Microsoft warned “not to copy data files that contain alternate [NTFS] data streams to Windows Home Server shared folders.
How long does it take to FIX this issue or is it in that WHS needs to be revised?
The results could ruin family photos, small-business records or anything else users save on the WHS!
The file corruption bug is a very serious problem for both WHS owners.
For Microsoft, this is the third product the company has rolled out this year that contained significant flaws in its code.
X-Box, Vista and now WHS with major problems!
When you look at WHS and some of the problems it is having, you might be able to conclude that quality really doesn’t matter, and Microsoft just wants to get the product into the channel at a certain time in the sales cycle, and that basically any problems they are finding they will either downplay their importance or claim they only occur in really rare circumstances…
Given most of the products listed are Microsoft’s own software, and were undiscovered which is probably why it’s best to just avoid first-generation products until once at least most of the bugs are resolved.
Microsoft will have to demonstrate that it is testing its software thoroughly rather than having customers do their work for them. We customers are NOT paid to be beta testers when we expect to use the product for what we paid for!
Microsoft MUST show that they really are testing across a wide enough [spectrum] of cases and scenarios and that they are adequately insuring that their products are ready to ship NOT as incomplete beta versions!
Someone needs to resolve why these products are getting out into the public and then being found with major problems that should have been detected before the release.
Microsoft’s reputation is damaging it’s credibility and our customer confidence. No one wants to pay full retail to be the guinea pig!!!
Microsoft’s KB article gives the following warning: “Make sure that you have a backup copy of any important program files before you store these files on a system that is running Windows Home Server.” The irony, of course, is that WHS is supposed to be that backup agent, instead of the cause of data loss.
😉
Agree with the previous posters – to say that “you’re ok if you run a crippled setup” is not good. One of the main selling points of WHS is the data duplication feature!
I waited – just not quite long enough – bought a 2 drive WHS just before Christmas, and put a huge amount of family stuff on it… 🙁
Hi Guys,
An update will be available shortly, but remember all new products have problems of some sort or the other.
Hi John,
the ADS issue you mentioned was resolved with the Nov (2007) update for WHS.
So was this issues resolved or not. I have two drives in my WHS and if it hasn’t been resolved I will remove one of the drives until they get it resolved. I am getting mixed feelings as to weather it was fixed or not..
@Jimmy Wlaker
The DATA CORRUPTION issue has NOT been FIXED yet by Microsoft.

How long should it take Microsoft to FIX WHS?
James Forthman is correct the data corruption issue is not yet fixed. The alternative data streams issue (ADS) is fixed – This was a totally different issue.
This is a huge problem. I have 5 drives in my system. Is there a estimated timeline for a fix to the data corruption issue with multiple drives?
Hi Luiz Dias,
No timeline but hopefully it should be very soon – Days or weeks?
