Over the last few days WHS enthusiast site We Got Served has published a series of how to’s for those wanting more from their Home Server’s. Excellent! WHS’ potential as a small web server have been greatly understated. Considering that any WHS owner can get a free DDNS-enabled domain name offers a cheap and simple solution for them to set up a small website, bulletin board, etc. on a basic, dynamic-IP-limited home cable or ADSL connection.
What’s interesting in this article about WHS, is for the FACT, an open source solution is being used instead of a Microsoft solution in a Microsoft product.
Since its creation in 2000, phpBB has become the most widely used Open Source forum solution.
This website also uses yet another open source code solution called “WordPress” too. So why isn’t Microsoft delievering it’s own product solutions?
Even WHS is depending upon third party add-in solutions as the default retail edition of WHS is boring, missing functions and features customers need.
Why isn’t there a print server in WHS?
Why didn’t a Microsoft product support it’s own flagship OS, being Vista in 64bit?
And why didn’t Microsoft do a better job of testing it’s own software with it’s own WHS product so that it would be released with a proven data corruption design flaw? A design flaw that continues to be without resolution despite having been known last year?

I got rid of my cable connection recently and went “internet only.” I know about those places like Hulu and such where you can watch pre-recorded TV shows. But I’m looking for a service where you can watch actual TV channels live as a replacement for cable. You know, where you can flip through channels of the big broadcasters and see TV shows and sports games as they’re broadcasted.
What do you guys think?
