Power Pack 1 Public Beta is Here
We have some great news for you. The Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 (PP1) public beta is here. This means you can now download a copy from Microsoft Connect (as long as you are registered) and help with the thousands of others who will test, operate and work through various scenarios to show that WHS is now one of the most stable and feature rich home backup solutions available.
So what’s new?
Well, of course the data corruption bug is fixed and the following new features have also been added:
Apart from all this Windows Home Server has been greatly improved, from speed enhancements to the overall customer experience. So, what are you waiting for? The download is available as an update package or as an ISO image of the evaluation version of Windows Home Server with Power Pack 1 integrated.
Once this public beta of PP1 has been validated by the community the final version of Power Pack 1 will be shipped and as Windows Home Server product manager Charlie Kindel states:
The only remaining question is how quickly those testers download the bits and start testing them.

I just installed the package and noticed that my custom images used in remote access were changed back to the default images.
Early feedback from a number of users suggests it is besto uninstall all Add-Ins before installing PP1, then add them back in later. (These are all HP MSS experiences…)
Installed PP1 yesterday, so far so good, but I haven’t done any thorough testing yet. I had one “file conflict” message after the reboot, but it went away after awhile? I reported it nonetheless.
The PP1 x64 connector does not work with older builds of Windows Home Server? Why not?
After installing Power Pack 1, a critical network error occurred stating there are file conflicts. What does this mean?
After installing PP1, I cannot connect to the WHS console with the following error, “This computer cannot connect to your home server”. Was there something else to enable here?
Installed PP1 and the following message appeared:
“Not Enough Storage is Available to Process this Command”
No idea why I am seeing this, but has this anything to do with using a smaller primary hard drive, as I had replaced the 750GB with a 500GB here? I don’t think that should have been any problem, but better to be safe right?
Why am I seeing the following EventID 130, EventID 132, EventID 272, and EventID 267 after installing PP1?
Does this have anything to do with the fact that I am no longer able to access any files on my shares?
Is anyone else seeing these Event ID’s?
Microsoft Windows Search 4 doesn’t seem to work from any of the Windows Home Server shares when using Vista. Is Windows Search v4 not compatible with PP1?
Okay, downloaded PP1, rebooted and then this message pops up, “Windows Home Server may run out of memory”. All I know is that this didn’t happen before PP1 was installed, so I am thinking there is plenty of system memory available, or does PP1 have a requirement of upgrading additional memory?
My remote connection stopped working after the upgrade. I know this isn’t RTM, but… what to do now?

Fix one bug, get twenty more bugs? Is that better?
I’m not even going to try this Beta PP1, until all the bugs have been worked out, so as NOT to introduce new bugs into WHS.
Let everyone else be testers with their WHS, as I sure didn’t purchase WHS to become a Microsoft tester here. Especially, seeing how the testing just continues to go on and on, never ending ever since WHS was released way back in 2007.
Power Pack 1 did removed the database backup feature!
Wake Up!
So, the PP1 update is now installed. However, after a few minutes, my WHS “health” icon turned yellow, inciating I need to install an updated WHS Connector. However, when I run the exe file, I keep getting an error message stating that WHS Connector has stopped working (or words to that effect). Thus, I cant get the updated connector installed.
