Why doesn't Windows Home Server use RAID?

Following on from our Fear the Cowboy’s post on Windows Home Server Drive Extender v RAID, the Windows Home Server Team Blog has a follow up posting explaining the WHS storage system design requirements and why RAID is not a consumer technology and why it’s not in Windows Home Server.

    WHS was sold as a centralized storage solution, which came with a backup feature, which isn’t the same as to say, a backup server dude!

    Not to mention canceling a backup can take a while (several minutes to hours), as the copy of the current 4-10+GB chunk must complete before the cancel can be completed. That’s in addition to experiencing decreased performance for streaming, slow Console response, etc…
