Setup a VPN on Home Server
How would you set up your Windows Home Server for a VPN connection. But why would you do this?
This is handy if you are travelling and need to access your network directly rather than via the web server.
All you need to do is setup a VPN network connection on your WHS and another on your travelling laptop and then install the connector software onto the notebook too.

Why go through all those backflips to get remote access? I just use LogMeIn Free, it works great and it’s free.
By setting up a vpn you could backup your computer remotely. Or you want to grab files off your server without going through the hoops of the website zipping files.
The instructions worked great for me 2 hiccups though. 1. vpn didn’t like http://xxx.homeserver.com. I had to find the ip and it connected fine.
2. When setting up the port 1723 I think. If it gives you an application type choice make sure to choose the vpn pptp. Until I did that I didn’t have any success. I’m running a Uverse 2Wire gateway.

The VPN didn’t like http:xxx.homeserver.com because you need to drop the http://
Like Microsoft’s example in the wizard said contoso.com; you need to type the following:
xxx.homeserver.com where “xxx” is your personal domain.
