Instant Messaging from WHS
Openfire is a piece of software which enables you to have an instant messaging (IM) server running on a Home or Small business network, enabling you (in this case) to have Yahoo, AOL and Windows Live (MSN) running directly from Windows Home Server.
HomeServerLand takes you step by step through the process of getting the software setup and configured which you can find here.

Perhaps someone can share some scenarios where this makes sense for the average consumer. If you have a family of 4, why not just use the public IM networks available today? Is the lure here, privacy?..for that super top-secret family.
The scenarios that I used when I wrote this guide on my GeekPill.co.uk site and then ported it over to HomeServerLand.com is that it is to have a privacy and the ability of the parents to route all public IM networks over their WHS so it records the chats. After all if their children are getting bullied at less the parents could directly ask the child who is bullying them.
It is also great from Small businesses that don’t have much money to spend on a chat system such as Microsoft Communicator. It is also good for the gamers such as World of Warcraft clans/Guilds as there is a plug in that allows the use of voice chat.
