Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House?

How do you market a Windows Home Server to the consumer? Microsoft have started a tongue-in-cheek advertising campaign called “Stay-At-Home Servers” taking over from where the “Center for Digital Amnesia Awareness” left off.

America's Talking Debate

Using a video debate show called “America’s Talking” being hosted by Mark Steele, this is the first of four videos posted. More will be added over the next few weeks that will help families understand why they should have a home server in their household.

Server Book

Also included on the site is a children’s book entitled “Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House?” This mock book is absolutely excellent and hopefully in a fun way the site will help explain how Windows Home Server can help you and your families.

This advertising is targeting young children. The advertisement talks about the father as “daddy” loving “mommy” who WANTS to give “mommy” a special gift. Of course, it’s a Microsoft software product.

Then this advertisement includes grandma and grandpa. How wonderful to share your files, photos, music, etc… And if this wasn’t all… the advertisement shows a young student accessing their files from home at school, in the classroom.

“Do you think the server is great? Of course, you do” states the advertisement. But just in case, then this advertisement suggest, perhaps a few might not agree with you., That’s all right, as their just jealous deep down inside that you have a Windows Home Server, and they do NOT!

And this includes other kids, peers and friends…

It’s so obvious, how Microsoft is trying to get their Windows Home Server ACCEPTED, rather than actually establishing the product with credibility by the end users.

We already now how Windows Vista advertising proclaimed an “WOW” experience, which translated into downgrading back to Windows XP. Even the corporate sector is delaying, and rumor has it, well going to wait for the next version, rather than to adapt Vista.

Will WHS be the same, as like all Microsoft products, needing patches, updates and service packs constantly to insure the products continues to function?

That might be why Microsoft has decided to target young children to pressure their parents into buying WHS, as WHS isn’t a “REAL SERVER” after all?

What where your thoughts after having seen this advertisement?
