Backup a MAC to Windows Home Server 2011

Windows PC’s are automatically added to the backup which takes place in a round robin style nightly but if you are using a Mac you end up with a launch pad and access to the server, but no default backup.

Our friend Sean Daniel (with help from Fabian and Craig) has put together the steps necessary to get the unsupported volumes to appear in TimeMachine by doing some magic in the Mac Terminal allowing the MAC to use Windows Home Server 2011 as the backup target.

Great writeup. It can also be found on the connect forums. However, this should work right out of the box – HP was able to do it, so why not MS. Should be part of the installer. Also the mac connector is crippled. Why does MS not leverage its own technologies (RDP for MAC) ?

This was working splendidly until Lion came out. Now I am unable to mount the remote volume.

The network backup disk does not support the required AFP feature.

Apparently this is due to Applerequiring that all NAS devices support the new Netatalk 2.2 protocol instead of any older versions.

    Any ideas?
