Windows Server 8 becomes Windows Server 2012

Microsoft Sign on Campus

After naming the desktop and ARM editions of Windows 8, Microsoft have also announced that Windows Server 8 will be known as Windows Server 2012 when it is released later this year.

The next version of Windows Home Server will be based on this server edition which will include Microsoft’s new Resilient File System (ReFS), and as we can see the naming convention is in line with existing server naming. e.g. 2003, 2008.

Awesome. This is already the best news of 2012. Thank you Microsoft for perpetuating this platform. Couldn’t live without my WHS 2011 box in my home environment.

I rather think that Philip is assuming that there will be a follow-on product from WHS 2011.

I’ve not heard any rumour that Microsoft is planning such a product, and given the degree of success that Microsoft has had with WHS 2011, I would be very surprised if there is one.

WHS 2011 != Windows Server 2012.. they’re different product families

    WHS 2011 = Windows Home Server 2011.. p

Windows Server 2KX = .. Windows SERVER.. designed for enterprises and all that fun

    Not the same..
