Live Mesh on Windows Home Server
If you haven’t heard of Windows Live Mesh then you must have been on Mars for the last few months. The service enables you to seamlessly connect to people, devices, programs and the information you care about, but unfortunately it’s not compatible with WHS, well, not officially.

I would strongly recommend my guide over the one linked in the article… it’s a lot easier to install on WHS than on Server 2008.
I’m curious what scenarios folks would use Live Mesh with WHS for. In a way, Live Mesh threatens various aspects of WHS (remote access, sharing and eventually application add-ons). I mean if Live Mesh is released with a 1TB storage option then what do we need WHS for. That may happen 10 years from now but we all know the bandwidth is just not there today to make it universally viable. So where are the synergy opportunities between Live Mesh & WHS today?? I don’t even think syncing 50GB+ of Music & Video libraries is practical with todays broadband. If its primarily text documents & spreadsheets..then Office Live Workspace and/or SkyDrive is adequate for that. The key I believe in WHS/Live Mesh synergy will be what becomes of Live Mesh applications & APIs. What are your thoughts?
My question is, is it actually safe to add a folder in D:\shares to the Mesh? If I add files to the folder from another computer, does it sync correctly to WHS and – more importantly – does it sync correctly within WHS (via the migrator)? I’d really love to hear some opinions on this.

It’s still not advisable to run Mesh on WHS until they make it work with UNC paths.
Not advisable, sure, but is it theoretically possible? If the filter operates at the share level, then I guess not; but if it operates at the file level (and the shares are simply unmodified Windows shares to those folders), then I don’t see why it wouldn’t work or would be any less safe than how file operations over the shares work.
