PCMag Reviews the Acer Aspire easyStore
PCMag.com has a review of the Acer Aspire easyStore H340.
The review looks at the design, features and performance of the unit and give it 3/5. Why? Author Mario Morejon had this to say:
“I had to use everything I know when configuring the network on the Acer Aspire easyStore H340. It’s not Acer’s fault, but rather the Windows Home Server software that needs to be more flexible. WHS is phenomenal—as long as you don’t encounter any networking problems. The H340 shows a lot of promise, nonetheless, but isn’t for those without some networking experience.”

I had hoped to leave a comment on his actual review, but the site doesn’t provide the option. I’ve been using the Acer H340 for about four months now and seemed to have considerably less problems than the author did.
I found the software incredibly easy to set up and I had a couple hiccups using a “cost effective” no-name router, but managed to get it operational.
The only downfall I found was the manual didn’t quite explain everything as well as it should have (the red i issue that pops up frequently). A quick search of Google was able to answer that though.
I think a 3 out of 5 is a bit harsh and that his comment was “I had to use everything I know when configuring the network on the Acer Aspire easyStore H340″. That concerns me when a tech writer has far more problems than the majority of Home Users who are buying this product with little problems.

FWIW, I bought the Acer about two months ago. I’ve learned a lot, especially since three months ago, I didn’t even know that Windows Home Server even existed! I wrote a review of my experiences that I posted on Amazon, where I bought the server. The server pricing has been quite volatile — as I write this, Amazon is not selling it at a discount ($399), but it’s gone as low as $349 (which is when I bought).
