I think PerfectDisk is better than any other optimization software for the following reasons:
Full integration with WHS console
Automatic background defrag
Background processing options allow complete automation flexibility (StealthPatrol, Screen Saver, Daily/Weekly Schedules, Command Line, Maximum Duration)
File placement strategy/multiple optimization strategies (SMARTPlacement, Consolidate Free Space, Defrag Only, Selected Files)
Single-pass defragmentation of files and consolidation of free space
Defragments drives with less than 1% free space
Space Explorer file and directory analyzer
Space Reports of your files’ usage and allocation
Faster subsequent defrag runs
Places MFT for improved performance and optimizes all NTFS metadata
Maximum single drive size supported : Unlimited
Hi,
Well, I can write about the pros and cons that we can google, but to sum it all up in one sentence:
“PerfectDisk have invented the wheels, all the other defrag software will be a bumpy ride with square compared to this one.”
It looks to me like more features and cheaper price that other options. Since I don’t have a defrag program yet, this program would work for me. I still wonder why MS didn’t inclucde a defrag app designed around drive extender. Will we see this in the next release? Would be nice. Good thing we have developers that can complete the package.
Alot has been posted already but between the WHS integration the single pass defragmentation and being able to defrag drives with less then 1% of free space we have a winner
I bet it’s got a Space Explorer file and directory analyzer.
Just a feeling…
Raxco Software’s PerfectDisk products provide innovative defragmentation features and a host of customizable administration tools, making PerfectDisk the industry’s leading defragmenting solution. Plus, all of their products are certified for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.
Better for me because:
I’ve already been convinced of the merits of PerfectDisk for my computers. If I’m going to place a defragging product on my WHS, it’s going to be PerfectDisk.
PerfectDisk is better than the competition for numerous reasons. Cost, speed, effectiveness, ability to install on Windows Home Server. Plus, the feature that the Maximum single drive size is unlimited will be invaluable in the future of larger drives.
I’ve actually done some research on defrag products for WHS. I tried a trial of Diskeeper 2009 Home Server. While technically it is”integrated into the WHS Console”, I found their integration to be mostly a recompile of their standalone product screens. As a result all the pages in the console required scrolling and were filled with too much stuff.
As I said on Day 1, the biggest feature I’m looking for is a defrag product that is understands what WHS is and is therefore customized for a Windows Home Server and its console screens.
StealthPatrol is essential in a server, because you can never be sure when it’ll be idle.
I wasn’t sure if I really need a third-party defrag tool, because windows native defragmentation works well for me on my regular machines. But then I did some more research and found this white-paper comparing PerfectDisk with windows native defragmenter and I was sold! 🙂

personally, I prefer the background processing and the fact that subsequent defrags are faster than previous defrags (which makes sense, but isn’t always the case)
IS the best because integrates perfectly with WHS and is smart enought to defragment with intelligent algoritms without impacting the server performance while in use.
WHS Disk Management and especially DE needs a serious look. Having a defrag with speed, integration, and price like PerfetDisk is purrrfect.
Full integration with WHS console
i am halfway through the evaluation period of perfectdisk 10 and so far like the background defragging. i’ve set up a weekly manual, but during idletime is a great reassurance.
Background processing, single pass defrag, faster subsequent defrag runs, defrags drives with 1% free space…. I could go on. 😉
I like the single pass defrag, and that it runs in the background. And I like that it is in the console so it is easy to set up and control.
Single-pass defragmentation of files and consolidation of free space
How about:
Defragments drives with less than 1% free space
Faster subsequent defrag runs
Maximum single drive size supported
Background processing is a feature I like about PerfectDisk 10. It doesn’t look like any other software runs this way. It’s great to set it and forget it whenever possible.
I do not have a defragger for my MS485 yet. I like the flexible scheduling in PerfectDisk that seems to be much better than DiskKeeper. I would put PerfectDisk to good use.
The name says it all, Perfect Disk, that is why it is better than the rest because it is a flawless application.
WHS integration, automatic scheduling, defragging when system is available, etc. all make this a real winner. But full WHS integration is probably the biggest IMHO.
I currently have a 32 bit version of home premium running on my home server and will be purchasing same version for my other PCs.
