Updating the WD DX4000 to WS2012 R2

WD Sentinel DX4000 Front

Troy Walker a WD DX4000 owner updated the device to Windows Server 2012 R2 and decided to do some testing:

Troy’s post highlights the subsystem and the latest RST drivers from Intel:

There are a few things to mention that are potential headaches. The script that I created to send system vitals to the LCD does work; however, there are a few metrics that are a tad buggy at the moment. The NIC readings are not functioning correctly. I know the reason for this and plan to provide an update when I can. The cause is that with the update to 2012R2, there are currently no drivers available from Intel for the 82754L Ethernet adapters. Only the Microsoft drivers are available that are built into the installation, which also means that the teaming has to be done differently and so the WMI containers have probably changed. I’m using the Microsoft teaming features built into 2012R2, and honestly… it’s working just fine.

Office 365 and Azure AD Can Now be Enabled in a Multi DC Environment

The Windows August update released this patch Tuesday includes a patch for WS2012 Essentials R2 which now allows Office 365 and Windows Azure Active Directory to be enabled in a multi domain controller (DC) environment.

Office 365 and Windows Azure Active Directory can be enabled in a multi DC environment

Here are the details from Microsoft:

In Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2, all of our online services integration features, including Azure Active Directory and Office 365, are supported only in environments that have a single domain controller. In environments with more than one domain controller, integration of these services is blocked due limitations in the user account and password synchronization mechanism in Windows Server Essentials.

I am happy to announce that with the recent Windows August Update released on (8/12/2014, PST), this limitation has been removed.  This update adds support for both Azure Active Directory integration and Office 365 integration features in domain environments consisting of a single domain controller, multiple domain controllers, or Windows Server Essentials as a domain member server.
