Microsoft have released another Learning Bites video for Windows Home Server 2011 and this one is on Homegroup setup.

This video covers setting up Homegroup on your Windows Home Server, and connecting your PCs. You will also learn how to use PlayTo with Windows Media Player and Homegroup.

WHS 2011 Server Restore with MonStor

Tranquil PC have published a 10 page guide on restoring a LEO HS4 with WHS 2011 with the MonStor service.

The MonStor service is Tranquil PC’s version of the Division-M Drive Bender add-in, providing Drive Extender functionality to Windows Home server 2011.

So the question is in the event of a catastrophic primary HDD failure, is the WHS2011 data / setup / pool manager etc safe?

Add-In: Home Server Status 1.0

Unlike WHS v1, Windows Home Server 2011 does not have any popup or warning about when the Home Server is running a backup. That is until now.

Thanks to Home Server Status, this add-in brings back the Windows Home Server v1 status icon to Windows Home Server 2011. You can choose to be advised of Windows Home Server connection and backup status from either the Windows 7 taskbar or by using the Classic WHS v1 system tray icon.

Unable to restore Windows 7 Client with RAID

If you are using Windows Home Server 2011, you may have a problem restoring your client machine if you are running RAID with Intel Rapid Storage.

This has occurred when using both RAID 0 and RAID 1 and the end of your log file will state that it can’t lock the volume for reason 5.

Add-In: AWIECO ServerCenter

Windows Home Server hardware producer AWIECO have announced the AWIECO ServerCenter Add-In.

This add-in comes preinstalled on all AWIECO hardware and allows you to change the display on the front of the chassis, allowing you can choose what should be displayed individually. Furthermore, you can also control and optimize the two fans inside the case too.

Lights Management Driver For WHS2011 v1.0.5

Lights Management for Windows Home Server 2011 has just had an update.

HP MediaSmert Server LEDs

This driver re-enables the drive lights on the following home servers following an upgrade to Windows Home Server 2011:

  • HP: EX48x, EX49x, X510, X310
  • Acer: H340

Also probably compatible and waiting for users to test:

  • HP: X311, X312

This latest version includes the following changes:

  • Modified LightsTester to be able to force a specific driver family to test on unsupported hardware.
  • The application now works with Lights-Out

The add-in Windows Home Server Download Manager has been updated to version 3.2.9 with the following changes:

Windows Home Server Download Manager does not support free file hosting services anymore but these are now supported in the newer Server Transfer-Manager.
