Install WHS2011 on the HP MediaSmart Servers

Now that a lot of us have WHS2011 running, whose who have a HP MediaSmart Server are asking what to do with their now old machines. So without further ado, those of you with a MediaSmart can now install WHS2011 on it courtesy of ex HP employee Alex Kuretz of MediaSmartServer.net.

Alex explains how to get the latest version of Windows Home Server installed on either a EX485, EX487, EX490, EX495, X510 DataVault or an LX195.

iTunes on WHS and Stream Stutter Free

Today we would like to bring to your attention 2 posts from our friends at MediaSmartServer.net

The first is from a forum thread on installing iTunes version 10 onto Windows Home server. The post you want is the 5th one down by “firefuze” who explains via a 5 step process, which is simple to follow and n00b proof, which you can find here.

The second is a guide on how to shut off Demigrator.exe in Windows Home Server, which may be necessary to avoid stutter when streaming media from WHS on a budget Home Server build. By using Windows built in Task Scheduler is is easy to set up a scheduled task for the Demigrator service to be turned off during your viewing hours and back on at other times, therefore no more stuttering.

Drive Bender Beta 2 Available

The second beta of Drive Bender is up and this beta release includes the add-in for WHS2011.

  • Many bug fixes and enhancements.
  • Windows Home Server 2011 addin.
  • Add drive to existing pool enabled.
  • Merge drive into an existing pool enabled (disabled on WHS addin, please use the Manager if you wish to perform a merge).
  • Remove drive from a pool is enabled.
  • Folder duplication enabled.
  • We have included a console output application. This can be accessed from the interface of the Manager.**
  • Bug fix: The Manager now starts up correctly after being shutdown while minimized.

Add-In: WHS for Android 1.2.8

The add-in WHS for Android has had an update:

  1. Updated Italian Translation
  2. Fixed Loading problem with Android 3.0
  3. Added a fix for "Loading Home Screen" errors – If any of the screens display "Error" anywhere, please visit the forums so that we can troubleshoot your problem.
  4. If you get a "Package Signature Error" simply uninstall and then reinstall.

Integrity Scanner View Integrity Scan Results

Integrity Checker runs as a service on your server watching your shares that you have selected for new and changed files. Whenever a file without a integrity stamp is located, it will be queued and automatically processed by the add-in. This process will be completed with no interaction on your part.

An integrity stamp is comprised of three separate pieces of information: file modification date, file size, and the SHA-1 hash of the file data, the integrity stamp information is then written to each file as an Alternate Data Stream (ADS). This Integrity stamp information will remain attached to the file when you copy the file to other servers and PC’s. (Note, some applications may delete the ADS when they write to an existing file. If the file remains in a folder watched by Integrity Checker then the integrity stamp will automatically be regenerated when the file is changed).
