I have discovered a flaw with Windows Home Server Code Name (Vail) with the amount of shares currently available. I noticed that each share created on the new dashboard obtained a drive letter on Vail, unfortunately any Windows OS can have a maximum of 25 drives plus the 1 OS drive.
I decided to test this and add shares until the server ran out of drive letters and see what happened, as you can see from the screenshot it won’t add the 17th custom share, showing the Error “The shared folder cannot be added because there are not enough drive letters to make the folder accessible locally.”
Now I am presuming this is going to be resolved before launch as this is quite a big restraint, this bug is so glaringly obvious the WHS team must have known of this during Vail’s incarnation.
I will wait to see off any developments with this and let you know.

Well WHS websites seem to have lit up with the news of Vail and many questions have been asked, so now I have finally got the preview beta version of Vail I am going to go through the WHS Website, Remote Access, Final Thoughts and then try and answer everyone’s questions.
Going to http://yourservername/ will display the webpage above, I am sure Microsoft will resolve the certificate problem before RTM, for now clicking “continue to this website” will get you into your server.
As I mentioned in the part 1 you can customise the WHS website now, as you can see from my screen shot above I have called my server “Matt’s Windows Home Server”. You can change the logo to the left although I think it may be business users that are more likely to use this.
Logged in you can now immediately see the machine available for remote access, shared folders and your media library.
