From NAS to Home Server

After a recent digital SLR purchase, Nigel Jones’s Buffalo Linkstation Pro NAS device was no longer going to be big enough for his future storage needs, so he needed to look else where.

He looked at the HP EX490 but was skeptical as he was a Linux addict but after reading up on it, and understanding how it works, purchased one.

Folder Duplication Feature to the Rescue

Software developer Chris Hammond got to test out the storage folder duplication feature of Windows Home Server when a drive in the server decided it was time to go to hard drive heaven.

Hearing what sounded like a dog growling in my office, upon investigation turned out to be the noise of the dying hard drive.

After trying to repair the drive for 2 days by swapping parts (without success) Chris decided to just tell WHS to “remove” the missing drive from the pool.

By the following morning all the data was again intact and re-distributed – Just one reason to buy a Windows Home Server, and as Chris says:

MVP Award and Chocolate Buttons

A new year and a special day for me today for two reasons.

First Its my birthday 🙂 and second for the 3rd year running a have been re-awarded as a Windows Home Server MVP by Microsoft. This allows me to keep my finger in the pie and be kept updated by the MS guys on the latest and greatest to do with Windows Home Server.

So, thanks to:

HP MediaSmart Server’s Compared
