Windows Home Server User’s Guide Winners Announced

Its time to announce the winners of the comprehensive guide to installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft’s Windows Home Server, the "Windows Home Server User’s Guide" by fellow MVP Andrew Edney.

WHS User's Guide

Andrew kindly gave us 2 copies of his book and we asked you to why you would like a copy, and many of you replied. So it was time for my wife Sharon to pick 2 names out of the hat (a list actually) and I would like to say congratulations to both Kick and Mark Pogue who wrote:

Kick:
I’m running my WHS for almost a year now and last month it saved my life (and my marriage :P). My disc in my pc crashed and within 2 hours (after installing a new drive) I had everything back -exactly as it was before!!!
So I love WHS and I sure love to have a copy of this undoubtly great informative guide! WHS ROCKS!!!

Mark Pogue:
I would appreciate a copy of Windows Home Server User’s Guide. Having just received my HP EX 485 on April 21st I’m in the beginning phase of learning. Andrew Edney’s book would be a great tool to get me started in the right direction as I intend to use my new server as a learning platform so that I may be able to contribute to the WHS in the future.
Thank you for your considerate contribution.

If you could both email me your full name and mailing address and a copy will be sent to you within the next 28 days, and if you were unfortunate to win, a copy can be purchase at Amazon US or UK for a great price.

HP MediaSmart Server 2.5 Update Works on EX47x

MediaSmartServer.net has hacked the HP MediaSmart Server 2.5 update to work on the first generation EX470 and EX475 servers.

2.5 Update on EX47x

This is accomplished by using an add-in called SanEncore which fakes the update package into thinking it is running on a 2.1 machine, and handles some of the missing configuration items so that the 2.5 update is successful.

A wiki article takes you step by step through the necessary steps, and although this is a work in progress, you gain the Twonky and S3 online backup features as well as Time Machine backup.

You can read the details here.
