F-Secure Home Server Security Beta

Beta 2 of F-Secure Home Server Security is now available for download which includes the following enhancements and bug fixes:

Enhancements:

  • Sidegrade – conflicting products are automatically detected and the user is prompted to uninstall a conflicting product before proceeding with installation.
  • Configurable notifications – it is now possible to configure when the product sends notifications to the user via Windows Home Server Connector.

Bug fixes

  • Subscription cannot be activated if the keycode has not been validated within 7 days [59588]
  • Infected files are deleted on a removable drive even if the action is set to “Quarantine automatically” [59678]
  • Error 1392 is shown when trying to open the quarantine [59748]
  • Incorrect notification is sent when the product malfunctions [59808]
  • Excluded file types are not removed as they should [59824]
  • The Apply button does not work in F-Secure settings dialog [59826]
  • “Not enough memory” error is reported to the event log while scanning a file [59958]
  • F-Secure settings get reset when other WHS settings are changed [59964]
  • FSHSS causes Remote Desktop connection to terminate [59965]
  • Some typos in the Settings dialog [59993]
  • Real-time scanning and automatic updates turn off without user actions [60001]
  • Quick check in the Scan wizard always shows 0 viruses found [59725]
  • The product may get malfunction after Scheduled scanning is enabled [59742]
  • Pressing “Check now” link doesn’t show any results [59686]
  • Scan archives setting is not available on the manual tab page in F-Secure settings [59986]

Add-In: KeepVault 2.21

KeepVault, the online backup solution for Windows Home Server has been updated again. This time version 2.21 includes the following additions:

  • Added a status field showing the total number of files in the queue waiting to be protected (displayed while KeepVault is active).
  • Added a “Pause Protection” link directly to the main KeepVault status window so protection can be paused/resumed without opening the WHS Console Settings page.

Add-In: WHS Mobile 0.0.0.2

You can now Remote Server configuration from anywhere in the world from your Pocket PC (PPC) or Smartphone.

WHS Mobile  

Say your forgot to port forward something when you’re out of the house. Then fire up your Smartphone or PPC, connect to the server via it, and then add the UPnP port to the list.

Current Features:

  • Add/Remove UPnP Port Forwards while out of the house.
  • Enable or Disable UPnP Features via WHS Console Settings

Developer Brent says that this is just the tip of the iceberg for WHS Mobile and that he has many things in mind for future releases.

Requirements:

  • Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit installed in the default directory.
  • .Net Compact Framework 3.5 installed on the Smartphone/Pocket PC

Version 0.0.0.2 include the following changes:

  • FTP Mode Added
  • List/Start/Stop FTP Sites
  • Put the server into Stand By (Sleep Mode)

Add-In: FTP Manager 0.0.1.2

FTP Manager is an add-in that allows you to install and configure the IIS FTP component for Windows Home Server. It includes the following features:

  • Install (or uninstall) the FTP component
  • Create/Remove FTP Sites
  • Start/Stop FTP Sites
  • Create/Remove FTP Virtual Directories
  • List FTP Sites
  • List FTP Virtual Directories
  • Adds firewall exclusion for the FTP component (inetinfo.exe)

FTP Manager

Version 0.0.1.2 also includes the following changes:

  • Fixes giant security bug that allowed anonymous users.
  • Switched to a faster method for Starting and Stopping sites.

Warning: FTP Manager will require your Windows Home Server installation media to install the FTP component.

Looking similar to the Windows Home Server “Hockey Puck” is Sony’s white “Liblog Station” due to launch  in Japan on May 17th.

Add-In:KeepVault 2.20

KeepVault, the online backup solution for Windows Home Server has been updated to version 2.20:

  • Added a per-file “percent complete” status field to view the progress of the current file being protected
  • Added archive-bit method to optimize file scanning and CPU access (Note: you must run the referenced utility to convert your existing KeepVault database to use this feature)
  • Added “Clear History” option to save valuable hard drive space on your WHS
  • Fixed bug: potential upload of files greater than 5GB
  • Fixed bug: potential duplicate uploading of files after disable/enable protected WHS Shares or incorrect PC shutdown

Add-In: Drive Labeler 1.0.05

Drive Labeler 1.0.05

MediaSmart Drive Labeler is a new add-in from Jerry McCollom which updates the drive labels on the HP MediaSmart Server’s as follows:

  • Drives are correctly labeled as SATA rather than SCSI.
  • The drive bay location is appended to internal SATA drives
  • External SATA drives are correctly shown as External rather than Internal.
