Beta Home Computer Restore CD Available for Download

The Windows Home Server Team have a beta version of the Windows Home Server – Home Computer Restore CD available for download from the Microsoft Connect site. If you have not previously registered for the Windows Home Server Connect site, then you will need a Windows Live ID, and will need to follow the instructions on the Windows Home Server Connect home page to download.

This new dual boot version of the Home Computer Restore CD provides 2 options for restore depending on the amount of RAM that you have installed in the PC that you are trying to restore to, since the original Home Computer Restore CD did not work properly in some setups.

The final version of the Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) will be part of the Power Pack 1 media refresh later this year, and will also be made available via the Microsoft Download Center to existing home server customers.

The team are asking that after you read the documentation if you can download and burn the ISO image to a CD to test the Windows Home Server – Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) on your setup.

Power Pack 1 and Data Corruption Issue Update

As I’m sure you are aware, Microsoft has been asking your opinion on wether they should release Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 (PP1) along with, or before the data corruption fix.

Taking your feedback into consideration from the WHS forums the Windows Home Server Storage and Test teams felt strongly that a combined release is the best option because it will result in a better quality product.

So the current plan is to combine the fix for the data corruption bug (KB946676) with the release of Power Pack 1.

The team has also stated that they are making great progress on the data corruption issue, and plan on releasing a beta of Power Pack 1 with the data corruption bug fix to hardware and software Partners, Microsoft MVP’s, Windows Home Server Insiders, and Microsoft Employees sometime in April. Based on feedback and additional testing, they currently plan on releasing a public available beta in May.

If you want to participate in a future public beta, make sure you register at  http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer.  When the Power Pack 1 software is ready for public testing, Microsoft will contact the people that have already registered at the Windows Home Server Connect site with more details on the public beta program.

MediaSmart Server LED Light Show Hack Can Cause Looflirpa

It’s been announced today that under certain conditions the light display on the HP MediaSmart Server can cause a hypnotic trance effect known as looflirpa. World announced neurologist Dr Paril stated that looflirpa occurs when the MediaSmart Server’s light display is configured using the HP MediaSmart Server LED Light Show hack. During the trance state, those affected have lost up to a whole hour which cannot be accounted for.

Microsoft and HP were not able to comment at the present time but we will bring you more details on this story once additional information is received!

UPDATE: Well, I hope you enjoyed our April Fool? The condition looflirpa (which doesn’t exist) is AprilFool backwards and Dr Paril (who is he?) is an anagram of April. Could you imagine if this was true? OK, perhaps not!
