  • Better (i.e. documented) regex support
  • Server name in EMail title
  • Possibly event name in Email title

NOTE: SMART monitoring should be in V3.

So, time to get involved and post your suggestions as a comment to this post or directly to Dave.

HP MediaSmart Server FAQ Posted

The official HP MediaSmart Server FAQ has been posted over at hp.com with 19 questions and answers. One that caught my attention was the following:

If my hard drive crashes, would it be possible to re-image a new hard drive for my computer using the HP MediaSmart Server?

Yes, The HP MediaSmart Server automatically backs up your hard disk drive image and can save multiple versions.  It also comes with a PC Restore CD that you merely insert into your PC (after replacing the hard drive in event that the hard disk drive failure), and pull your desired hard disk drive image from the HP MediaSmart Server.  If your computer has merely been corrupted by a virus, malware, spyware etc., you can re-image your hard disk drive from a known good state by bringing back an older version of the hard disk drive image from the HP MediaSmart Server.

The T2-WHS-A2, from Tranquil PC is now shipping for £399.00 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%)

t2-whs-iso-a

The T2-WHS-A2 is the second Home Server in the series, and in it’s most basic form, provides up to two internal 3.5? high capacity drives.  The drives are mounted on our own custom ‘cooled’ semi-suspended HDD sub system.  This both protects the HDD’s in transit, and daily use, as well as providing a degree of anti-vibration protection.

One of the ‘nice’ features of the T7-WHS is the wall mounting option.  With the T2-WHS-A2 there are additional mounting options, Desk mount (default), 19? Rack mount, secure Wall mounting, and floor mounting.

This new unit has six USB2.0 ports for quick and easy storage expansion, but by opting (or adding your own) PCI / eSATA cards, the system suddenly becomes a real mass storage device, you would never need any other form or storage.  Using the current eSATA PCI cards provides support for up to 8x ports.  Each port can connect to a regular eSATA HDD enclosure, or to the Tranquil T7-HDDe products – to be featured later in their catalogue – these clever devices use Port Multiplier technology to give you 2x HDD’s per USB2 or eSATA port – you can even set the T7-HDDe products to manage their own data duplication (RAID).

By using our HCAP eSATA PCI cards, with 4x ports per card, you can even connect our 4x or 5x HDD enclosures, you can have up to 8x HiCAP eSATA ports on the T2-WHS-A2, and each port driving 5x HDD’s!
