Add-In: StableBit Scanner v2.3.0.2850 / 2.3.0.2851

StableBit Scanner for WHS2011, SBS 2011 Essentials and Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials has had a couple of updates.

Here’s the change log for versions 2.3.0.2850 / 2.3.0.2851:

  • Always perform update check after log in (non-WSS).
  • Stopping the service now properly exits the service process.
  • Fixed issue with local SMART warning notifications (non-WSS).

Drive Bender S.M.A.R.T. teams with Hard Disk Sentinel

Late last year Drive Bender introduced S.M.A.R.T. monitoring, giving the user real-time feedback on the health of their hard drives. But instead of reinventing the wheel and carry on developing their own SMART application, Drive Bender have teamed up with the people at Hard Disk Sentinel.

So the next release of Drive Bender will have its S.M.A.R.T. feature powered by the Hard Disk Sentinel engine, bring the best in class pooling and S.M.A.R.T. applications together.

The initial beta using the Hard Disk Sentinel engine is scheduled for the first week in February, and with a short beta cycle, the full release should be available soon after.

My Server Windows App for WS2012e from Windows Store

My Server is in app for Windows Server 2012 Essentials users which helps keep you seamlessly connected to your server resources on devices running Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Available as a free download in the Windows Store, My Server is similar to the My Server Windows Phone app where you can manage users, devices and alerts and access shared files on WS2012 Essentials.  In addition, the files that you have recently accessed with My Server will continue to be available to you even when you are offline.

With the My Server app you can:

  • Browse, edit and search for files stored on your server
  • Copy files from your local computer to the server, or save files from the server to your computer

  • Transparently search for documents located on both your local device and your server’s shared folders
  • Play back media files stored on the server
  • If you are an administrator, you can also:
  • Manage users, devices, and alerts

Paul Thurrott Talks Sync, Storage and Backup

Paul has a HP micro server running Windows Server 2012 Essentials. It has five 3-TB hard drives attached. Two of which are external and three which are internal.

Paul admits that it is sagging under the weight of data duplication and local and online backups and that he is seeking a fix.
